Osgoode Hall Law School is committed to building community. For the third consecutive year, the Law School will open its doors to Success Beyond Limits (SBL) students and mentors as the home base for SBL’s Grade 9 prep program.
Success Beyond Limits is a non-profit, youth led mentoring group that provides Jane-Finch youth with holistic supports to complete their education and experience success in their lives. SBL will be running its summer program at Osgoode from July 2 to August 14.
“We’re delighted to welcome back Success Beyond Limits to the Law School and look forward to meeting this year’s participants,” said Osgoode Dean Lorne Sossin. “SBL is a truly amazing program that encourages youth to strive to do their best. We’re glad they have chosen Osgoode for their summer program location. The Law School is a more vibrant – and slightly louder – place when they’re here.”
Over the next six weeks, 100 or so Grade 8 graduates from Oakdale Park and Brookview Middle Schools will be bussed to Osgoode to engage in morning classes led by Toronto District School Board teachers focusing on English, Math and life skills.
The students’ afternoons will be filled with recreation programs including sports, art, music, technology and swimming as well as field trips and leadership programs. Joining the Grade 9 students will be about two dozen mentors from Grades 11 and 12 at Westview Centennial Secondary School. Many of the mentors are themselves graduates of the SBL program.
The culmination of the program will be one Grade 9 credit earned (before even entering Grade 9) and a Graduation Ceremony on August 6.
Osgoode is proud to partner with the other members of the York University community who support SBL and its achievements in advancing opportunity and inclusion.
