Kevin McElcheran

Called to the Ontario Bar in 1982, for 40 years Mr. McElcheran has been a leading insolvency lawyer experienced in all areas of insolvency practice, both litigious and transactional. He was certified by The Law Society of Ontario as a specialist in bankruptcy and insolvency law in 1997. Throughout his career, Mr. McElcheran has used creativity, commercial expertise and strong advocacy skills to advance the interests of debtors, creditors and other stakeholders with positions of critical importance in large restructuring and insolvency cases. In 2014, after 25 years leading the insolvency practices of two of Canada’s leading commercial law firms, Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP and McCarthy Tetrault LLP, Mr. McElcheran opened his own office to offer a variety of services to businesses affected by operational or financial distress.

Mr. McElcheran is the author of Commercial Insolvency of Canada published by NexisLexis Butterworths, now in its 4th edition (2020).  He is a contributor to Halsbury’s Laws of Canada, Bankruptcy and Insolvency (2021) and the author of many published articles.

Since 2015, Mr. McElcheran has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Queen’s University Law School in Kingston Ontario teaching the Commercial Insolvency Course.

Mr. McElcheran is a trained mediator, receiving the designation of MCIarb in 2014.
