International Visiting Research Trainees (IVRT)
Eligibility
Researchers who hold the rank of full-time professor at a recognized post-secondary institution.
Researchers who have completed advanced academic or professional work beyond a doctor’s degree, and do not hold the position of full-time professor.
Researchers enrolled in a program of study at their home institution and not enrolled in courses at York University.

Additional Requirements for Visitors in All Programs
Deadlines
October 31:
For visits during the Summer (May to August) academic term.
February 28:
For visits during the Fall (September to December) or Winter (January to April) academic term.
Applications will be reviewed following the relevant application deadlines. Applicants will be notified approximately 2-4 weeks after the deadline.
We may be able to offer some flexibility in these timelines if an applicant faces extenuating circumstances or in cases where an early application is necessary to meet the requirements of a prospective funder. In general, please allow approximately 4 weeks for a response.
Please note that if you require a work permit (for visits over 120 days), it can take up to 6-9 months for your work permit to be issued. Keep this is mind when you are applying, as you may need to be flexible in your visit dates.
Fees
$130 administrative fee applies to all accepted applications.

Work Permit or visa-related fees are at the responsibility of the visitor.
Note: Osgoode cannot provide advice on immigration matters. Please reach out to your local Canadian Visa office or York International for information.
Language Proficiency
Applicants must demonstrate language proficiency if their first language is not English and they have not completed at least three years of full-time study in English. To be considered, applicants must achieve one of the following:
A total score of at least 93 on a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with a minimum of 22 for Writing and 22 for Speaking.
A result of 7.0 in the academic test format of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Research Ethics
All research must adhere to York University’s Research Ethics standards and are subject to review and approval.
